Mathematics Enrichment Starts Up Across Ireland

Jacob Bennett-Woolf

The Mathematics Enrichment programme are a set of free, weekly mathematics classes for secondary school students in five universities (Maynooth University, NUI Galway, University of Limerick, UCC and UCD) that are designed to foster problem solving skills and expose students to mathematics they might not otherwise see in the standard curriculum. Mathematics Enrichment participants work in a relaxed, playful environment where they meet new ideas and activities designed to deepen their interest in the subject. Emphasis is placed on creative thinking and problem-solving skills.

Participating students get a chance to participate in mathematics competitions such as the Irish Mathematical Olympiad, the International Mathematical Olympiad, the European Girls Mathematical Olympiad and the Purple Comet competition.

This is the second year when Junior classes will also run across the five centres, with support from SGI Discover and SmartFutures.
